Boston, Massachusetts is full of history, heritage and innovation. There is a lot to see and do in the city and something for all the family. Here are some of the highlights of a visit to Boston.

Anyone on a first time visit to Boston will be spoilt for choice. One of the best ways to get to know the historic parts of the city is to take the marked Freedom Trail. Covering 16 historic sights this walking trail takes in a lot of the context around the American Revolution. It includes Paul Revere House, Faneuil Hall, and the USS Constitution. Don’t forget to spend time at the Boston Tea Party Ships which are a highlight of a visit to the city. Another fascinating collection in Boston is the Isabella Stewart Gardiner Museum which houses many artefacts from the owner’s travels around the world. The Museum of Fine Arts is another big attraction for visitors to Boston. For some more modern history head to the John F. Kennedy Museum which gives a fascinating insight into the ex-President’s life. The Massachusetts Museum of Science and technology is one of the finest in the world and will keep both kids and adults amused all day. Boston Children’s Museum is perfect for kids and has a vast collection of items. Kids will enjoy a Boston Duck Tour and will also appreciate a visit to LEGOLAND. In Boston do remember to get a Boston Visitor card as it will save money on many of the attractions and transportation.

Shopping is a popular reason to go to Boston and there are some great places to pick up a bargain or buy some quality crafts. Quincy Market is a lovely place to explore with cafes and craft shops. Lots of chic shops can be found in Newbury Street and in Faneuil Hall Marketplace there are restaurants as well as places to shop. Copley Place is another upmarket shopping area. Eating out is a treat with lots of fresh seafood and a host of specialties from all over the world. There is Italian, French, American and much more, reflecting the multicultural aspect to the city. The quality of food in Boston is very high and you’ll find it hard to choose where to eat out as there are so many good places.

Boston is famed for Harvard University and visitors can head to nearby Cambridge where students often give tours of the grounds. Another easy day trip from Boston is Salem which achieved notoriety for the witch trials but today is a pleasant town. Why not see if you can get a ticket for a Boston Red Sox match? Looking for a walk or a run? Head to Boston Common for some fresh air. It is particularly beautiful in fall. There are theatre and musical concerts in Boston too and festivals throughout the year. This is home to the Boston Ballet and the Boston Symphony orchestra so do plan ahead and check out the performances. Whenever you go you’ll find lots of things to do in Boston.
