Google isn't just a great way to find what you're looking for on the web, apparently it's also a prankster, too! The search engine managed to pull off a funny April Fool's Day joke by tricking lovelorn singles into thinking they offered a new dating service.
When someone visited www.google.com/romance/ they found that the site offered a way for singles to post a profile and get set up on a perfect date.
For those who really read the wording carefully, they probably knew that something wasn't quite right. But, for those who just skimmed, they probably didn't notice that they were being scammed.
The description of the dating service let people know that it was easy to use, all they would have to do is upload a profile, search for love, then let Google pay for a contextual date.
It really looked very official and let people take a virtual tour that outlined how the date' would work, read FAQs that offered very wordy, funny, and somewhat confusing answers to your frequently asked questions, and also see a press release that looked very real.
Anyone who didn't get that it was a joke and clicked on the link to upload their profile finally got to see that they had been April Fooled! April Fool's Day might be over, but it isn't too late to play a joke on a friend, family member, or co-worker. The site is still up and running, so send someone a link and see how long it takes them to figure out they've been fooled.
